The old Aduana building

One of the most beautiful architectural monuments of the city of Barranquilla is the Montoya Station , starting point of the Barranquilla-Sabanilla railway line. Inaugurated in 1871, built by the Railway and Pier Company, and which is part of the set of republican buildings of the Old Customs , considered as the cultural center of the city. Another building that is part of this beautiful complex is the old Aduana building (which currently houses the Pilot Library of the Caribbean, the Children's Pilot Library of the Caribbean and the Hans Federico Neuman Musical Documentation Center), as well as other interesting urban spaces they are part of this complex, such as the Aduana-Elbers cultural park , the Locomotora square , the Mario Santo Domingo Auditorium , a small square, the Customs gallery and the Arcade , spaces for holding events, presentations, assemblies, meetings , among others. These buildings underwent a thorough restoration in the 90s, in fact, the old Customs building was awarded the First National Architecture Award in the category of Restoration, and the First Prize International FIABCI Urban Renovation. Undoubtedly, it is one of the great tourist references of a city that was born less than 200 years ago, but thanks to its privileged location on the Caribbean Sea, it obtained a rapid growth and development, until consolidating itself at present as the fourth city most important in the country.
